I discovered local honey a few years ago when coming across Eden’s Nectar, a regional co-op that extracts honey according to season. I was intrigued by the way the tastes can vary according to season. Recently I was even more pleased to discover a closer resource at the Fisher Honey Bee Farm in Land O Lakes.
At this farm, not only do you get the benefits of local raw honey, but they also infuse other natural ingredients to enhance the flavor. During a recent tour, we were able to learn about bees and the process of making honey, as well as sample the strawberry, blueberry, cinnamon, pumpkin pie and other varieties.
I always knew honey was good for you because of the antioxidant properties, but did you also know…
- Honey has antioxidants that can’t be found in any other sources
- Raw honey has more health benefits than pasteurized, which is what is most often sold in stores
- It’s the only food on the planet that doesn’t spoil or rot
- It can be used to treat constipation, allergies and sleep disorders
More information on the benefits of honey.
But, don’t take my word for it! Try out local raw honey for yourself and see what you think. Fisher sells their products at these locations and online. You can also find Eden’s Nectar at several local places.
